The Florida Department of Transportation Progresses with Plans to Widen SR 75/US 231 in Panama City

The first segment of the Florida Department of Transportation’s (“FDOT”) SR 75/US 231 road widening project in Panama City, Florida (located in Bay County) has been divided into two sub-segments. The first sub-segment will widen US 231 from US 98 to East 23rd Street, and the second sub-segment will widen US 231 from East 23rd Street to Pipeline Road. The proposed improvements to US 231 and connected roadway systems include widening US 231 from four to six lanes, constructing flyover ramps at the intersections of US 231 with US 98 and SR 77, and improving drainage with storm water ponds.

Both sub-segments have been funded for right-of-way acquisition. The current plans indicate that the FDOT anticipates acquiring approximately 292 parcels of Panama City property to complete this road widening project, and to do so, the FDOT has budgeted over $161 million dollars to acquire the needed right-of-way between fiscal years 2019-2023.
