The Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) recently unveiled 60% construction plans for the replacement of the Brooks Bridge in Fort Walton Beach which is located in Okaloosa County. The proposed six lane bridge will link Highway 98 from Perry Road in Fort Walton Beach to Pier Road on Okaloosa Island.
The current plans indicate that FDOT anticipates acquiring approximately 37 parcels of Okaloosa County property to complete this project and to do so, FDOT has budgeted $48 million dollars to acquire the needed right-of-way between fiscal years 2020-2022.
